John F. Chmielewski, 84, neighborhood handyman

DOVER TOWNSHIP – John F. Chmielewski, 84, of the Toms River section of Dover Township, died Tuesday (July 19, 2005) at his home.

Mr. Chmielewski was a cabinet maker, builder and electrician. He worked for the Amity Lamp Co. in Perth Amboy for 49 years, retiring in 1982.

John was known as the neighborhood handyman. Born and raised in Dunellen, he lived in Scotch Plains, moving to Toms River in 1961.

He was predeceased by his wife, Julie, in 1986; a sister, Pauline Petruski, in 1986; and nephews, Frank and Raymond Petrucki.

Surviving are his son, John Chmielewski of Lake Mary, Fla.; daughter, Cynthia Chmielewski of Toms River; nieces, Barbara Schaefer, Jeannette Shipley, Priscilla Haflich and Edith Turnage; and his cousins, Victoria Glembocki, Helen Crawford, Andy and David Chmielewski, Doris Novak, and Michael and Geraldine Mango.

The family invites relatives and friends to join them in celebrating John's life from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the family home, 933 Tanglewood Road, Toms River. Kedz Funeral Home in Toms River is in charge of arrangements.
