Thomas P. Herner

Thomas P. Herner, 69 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Lakeview Specialty Hospital and Rehab, Waterford, WI. He was born December 22, 1943 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Victor and Pauline (Tomasiewicz) Herner, living in Apex, NC for 25 years, before settling in Antioch in 2011. Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. Before his retirement, Tom had worked over 36 years for American Airlines as Head Aircraft Mechanic at O’Hare Field and Raleigh, NC, and owned and operated Herner Heating and Air for 13 years in Apex, NC. Was past president and vice president for the Transport Workers Union Local #569, and had run for the City Commissioner position for the town of Apex, NC. On March 1, 1976 he married Carolyn A. Schmauder in Las Vegas, NV.

Survivors include: his wife Carolyn, two sons: David (Michele) Herner and Steven (Tamara) Herner; four grandchildren, Brittany Wilson, Zak Herner, Thomas Herner, and Tyler Herner; a sister, Sandra (Mike) Fitzgerald; his god children: Melissa Petruzza, Allen Klabasa, and Rosalie and Micaela Maynor; close friend, Anthony Maynor; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father Warren Ludwig.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday February 23, 2013 at St. Peter Church 557 Lake St. Antioch, IL 60002. Interment will be private.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002.

Tom Herner passed away on Feb. 16, 2013 in Antioch, Illinois. Tom and his wife, Carol, were active members at St. Andrew for many years. Tom was a choir member, cantor, and faithful servant here at St. Andrew. Tom kept the homes of many parishioners warm in the winter and cool in the summer through his business, Herner Heating & Air. The funeral mass for Tom will take place at St. Peter Catholic Church in Antioch, Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tom’s obituary can be viewed at www.strangfh.com.
