Commodore Amiga 1200
I bought this Amiga 1200 at an auction platform in July 2021. It came in an original "Amiga Magic" cardboard box, together with an "A600" PSU and an old and broken tank mouse. I know nothing about the history of this machine, except that it was build by ESCOM, so it was one of the last Amiga 1200 that have ever been produced. The mainboard is about two years older than the system itself, and there are signs of professional repairs. It seems that at this time, ESCOM had repaired returned Amigas and sold them as new.
Configuration
- Built: November 29, 1995 (mainboard probably start of 1994)
- Mainboard: Revision 1D.1
- CPU: 68030/33 (via ACA1234)
- OS: AmigaOS 3.2.1
- Chipset: AGA (HP Lisa)
- RAM: 2 MB Chip RAM, 128 MB zero-waitstate Fast RAM on board of the ACA1234
- Indivision AGA MK3 scandoubler with HDMI output
- RTC extension
- GOEX floppy drive simulator with OLED display
- Custom LED colors (blue, green, red)
Known Issues
- The keycaps are still a bit yellowed even after whitening. I consider to replace them with new replica keycaps as soon as they become available.
Restauration Works
- Restauration was carried out from July thru September 2021
- Whitened the keycaps. The case wasn't yellowed at all and only needed some soap water.
- Replaced all electrolytic capacitors with Panasonic (up to 10,000h lifetime) or Würth Elektronik (up to 5,000h lifetime) ones.
- Replaced the floppy drive with a CenturionTech GOEX on pills floppy simulator + OLED display
- Replaced the hard drive with a SD to IDE adapter and a raiser board that fixes the "LED always on" issue.
- Replaced the cheap ESCOM sticker with a replica Commodore A1200 badge.
- Replaced the original LED board with custom made LEDs (HDD: red, FDD: green, Power: blue).
- Extended the system with a HDMI output, and an ACA1234 68030 turbo board.
- Case was skewed due to a badly fitted keyboard frame. I removed some plastic noses on the left side, the keyboard now fits perfectly. I hope the plastic will adapt to the new position again.
- Replaced many missing screws.
