Commodore Amiga 500
I bought this Amiga at an auction platform in September 2021, because I could get this system for a good price. It came with an original Amiga 500 cardboard box, PSU, and a defective tank mouse. The system was sold as defective because the mouse pointer could only be moved vertically. Luckily it turned out that it was caused by the broken tank mouse. The system itself was (almost) undamaged. It even had an intact warranty seal.
My plans are to build a modified system, with a black case and black keycaps. The original keyboard was a Samsung model, and thus not suitable for the replica keycaps. I had to organize a Mitsumi keyboard. It is going to be a "game machine" especially made for games and demos of the early Amiga days that only work with AmigaOS 1.2.
Configuration
- Built: October 1989
- Mainboard: Revision 6A
- CPU: 68000
- OS: AmigaOS 1.2
- Chipset: Nearly ECS (HiRes Denise, OCS Agnus)
- RAM: 1 MB Chip RAM
- Pixel perfect HDMI output
- SD Card floppy drive emulator
Restauration Works
- Restauration started in September 2021, still in progress (waiting for parts)
- Metal shielding and memory expansion damaged by leaking battery, fixed.
- Replaced all electrolytic capacitors with Panasonic ones (lifetime up to 5,000 h), audio capacitors replaced with bipolar type (for enhanced audio quality).
- R401 (mouse port power) was charred and was replaced with a 1W metal film resistor. Also preemptively replaced R408 (joystick port power).
- Ultra low profile sockets used for 1MB Chip RAM. Unfortunately ripped off one trace, and fixed it with wire wrapping wire.
