Casio SF-4000
After finishing an unpaid internship at an office supplies shop in January 1990, I was offered to pick a small reward for the good work I did. I picked this Casio SF-4000 Digital Diary as farewell gift, with a worth of around 149 DM at that time. It was one of the first devices (if not the first device) that was offering organizer functionalities, and was more than a mere pocket calculator.
From that day on, this diary would accompany me for four years as everyday organizer for appointments and phone numbers. The outer shell is worn accordingly.
Configuration
- Unknown build date, probably 1989
- Dot matrix monochrome LCD
- CPU: Hitachi HD62023C0
- RAM: 32KB (battery buffered)
Restauration Works
- None, except of a bit of careful cleaning.
Fun Facts
- Although this model has a schedule, it was not equipped with an internal clock. It was up to the user to set the calendar to the current month, and it was not possible to set alarms.
- Inside the case of the Digital Diary there are pads for a serial connection. With the aid of these connectors (and a secret network menu), it is possible to copy the stored data to another SF-4000 or to a PC.
