4.4ghz CPU

Last night before the party I moved all the painted boards out of the garage onto the trailer outside. This was so Lib could get her car into the garage. Today after the CBS Sunday morning News I went outside and started getting the grow boxes prepared. Two new cups of dolomite lime into the ones that house tomatoes and one cup into each of the others. This was raked into the top 4 inches of soil. I also topped each of the boxes up with fresh soil from the compost pile. Two cups of general purpose compost were layed down in a strip in each of the boxes on top, under the mulch cover. The cover was put back on and all the seedlings were transplanted. I played with the new computer some more but no luck. I ordered a new motherboard from Newegg from their sale sheet. It's another z97 MB but with less USB ports. The cost after a $20 rebate will be $69 but I paid $20 for 2 day shipping. I also ordered a transient protector using ordinary shipping. This one has ports to protect RJ45 jacks and coaxial cables in addition to protected AC outlets. I'll use it to protect the cable modem. We've lost too many over the years. Dinner was Libbie's excellent pizza. I tried an experiment. I took the Gigabyte Motherboard to the microscope and examined the pins of the LGA1150 socket. A few pins were bent in a few places. I gingerly nudged them back into position and carefully put the CPU back into the socket. The whole system seemed to boot BIOS!!!! Later in the day I hooked up all the cables and bolted it down inside the old Traviata case. I put a Win 7 USB drive into the USB slot and it installed windows. I also put a few key programs on the machine such as 7 zip, VLC player, Ultraedit, Chrome, and others. I need to make a list of important software. The install took under 1 minute. The old Manon took almost 10 minutes to boot. This is going to be remarkable. Software tells me the CPU is running at 4.4 Ghz. Now I need to mate a hard drive to this thing. I have a few 1T green drives laying around. I need to see what's on them. |
