trip to Atlanta

Libbie slept in quite late. I appreciated the quiet time to further write the weather program for the Davis Gateway. When she eventually woke we went to breakfast where I had 5 blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon. Wow, too many pancakes. We then took a walk all around the lagoon but on the way there i took a wrong turn and we ended up going all around the estate, a several mile loop. We then checked out and hit the road at 10, somewhat later than I thought we would be going. We altered our plans and decided to do half of the Botanical Garden today and the rest tomorrow morning, allowing time for the High Museum f Art in the afternoon. We were able to check into the Hampton Inn at 1:45. What a letdown compared to the Biltmore but it will be adequate for our stay. We had lunch at a hole in the wall bar consisting of pulled pork with slaw and French Fries. We had a Sweetwater 420 Ale to complement the meal. We then made our way to the Botanical Garden where we encountered heavy traffic. When we got inside the parking garage, the skies opened up and it poured like heck for 15 minutes before clearing. We used an umbrella to make our way to the Welcome Center where Libbie needed to use the facility. They accepted our Selby Reciprocal membership so that admission is free. I was quite tired but we walked through the wet sidewalks and admired the plantings. The gardens are really beautiful, some of the best I have yet to see in a Botanical Garden, even better than Dallas. Later in the afternoon we were tired so left. Met an interesting couple from Alabama who asked me if we would be comfortable in this environment if they developed an outdoor restaurant. It was fun talking to them, she was quite attractive. For dinner Libbie just wanted Pizza and Beer so I found a place called Shortys Pizza, a neighborhood Pizza joint. The pizza needed to be cooked longer in the wood oven, it was tasty but it was quite soggy. Libbie's pizza blows there's away. |
