Hampton Inn Hotel breakfast then we packed out things and left for the Carter Center at 9 AM. It was a short drive away on local roads. We paid for our admission at the combination gift shop and entrance tickets. The museum is small and focuses more on Jimmy Carters post presidential activities. We walked through and looked at some of the exhibits as well as watched the movie that told the Jimmy Carter story from Plains to the White House and beyond. The conclusion was what we had thought. He was a decent person but not a very effective President. After the museum we took a walk through the garden in the back that features a pond with sculpture of a young man leading a blind elder in Ghana. There also is a pretty Japanese Gardens and two scenic ponds. The whole thing overlooks the City of Atlanta in the background. We browsed the gift shop then got into the car and started for home around Noon. Google Maps kept trying to take us North on 85 but I wanted to go East on 20 mainly to avoid arriving in Charlotte during rush hour. We went East to Augusta then to Columbia, SC. We hit some very heavy rain on this route. The clouds were all along 20 with some very heavy downpours. There was blinding rain and thunder and lightning which slowed us to 40 MPH or less. Eventually we got out into the Sunshine around Columbia and found 521 in Sumter. We headed North to Route 1 all the way home. It was single lane each way until around Aberdeen but the travel wasn;t too bad. We got to see quite a few small towns but kept going. Eventually we got home at 6:30. We went straight over to Chipotle and used a free BOGO coupon we got from their website which was great. I had a Chipotle bowl with brown rice, onion-pepper, Carne Asada, salsa, black beans, corn, guac, cheese and lettuce. We had this with the leftover wine from yesterday.
