July 16 started the big road trip.
The venues:
- Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Chihuly Nights, Nashville. Chilhuly art scattered across 50 acres of gardens
- Dixon Botanical Gardens and Gallery, Memphis. special art exhibit American Impressionists in the Garden
- Beale St, Memphis - Blues music at night on the street and in various clubs
- Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial
- Oklahoma Western Heritage Museum, art of the Western Artists, Prix du West - juried art show with the best of the West
- Cadillac Ranch, Amarillo, paint third Cadillac from right with violet logo grafitti
- Biti Pies, route 66 Amarillo. Pickup Biti pie for Libbies birthday
- Albuquerque Museum of Art, exhibit “From Cezanne to VanGogh, art from the Turner Collection”
- National Museum of Nuclear Science, Albuq. Real Atomic bombs, H bombs, minuteman missiles, B52 bomber, etc. This stuff used to be classified!
- La Hacienda, Old Town Albuquerque birthday dinner
- Santa Fe Opera, “Tales of Hoffman” by Offenbach
- Nedra Metteuci sculpture gardens, Santa Fe. Private art dealer recommended by my friend Jim who is a Raleigh Gallery owner. Wow!!!!
- Monument Valley, Utah. Beautiful room in the side of a monument overlooking the valley. Driving tour of the valley
- Bryce Canyon National Park. Hiking to the bottom, enjoying the HooDoos.
- Zion National Park. Interesting drive through but no stopping
- Death Valley Junction, Amaragosa Opera House. Interesting town of 2 buildings, lunch at the Opera House. Temperature 117
- Death Valley National Park, hotel at Furnace Creek in the park. Temperature 124, overnight low of 104. Desert floor is at 200. One of the most beautiful and desolate places on earth. Definitely will return but in the winter.
- Huntington Beach, CA. US Open of Surfing. 400,000 people in town for the competition. Help remodel bathroom.
- Route 66 through Holbrook, AZ
- Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Parks
- Texas small town driving tour from Amarillo to Denton
- Overnight with the Nicholas's. AVSA DVD work
- Visit Hortense and Ray in Celina
- Bill Clinton Presidential Library Little Rock, AR
- Panera Bread in Knoxville (parking lot bump)
