Water Heating Calcs

A BTU is the amount of heat to raise one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon.

Assuming a 500 gallon tank of water just below boiling, or about 200 degrees. The heat content of this water above 100 F is 100 x 500 x 8.3 = 415,000 BTU's.
