Two accidents slow traffic on I-95 in Robeson County

This was on my trip back from Sarasota Nov 13, 2007

LUMBERTON — Two separate accidents on Interstate 95 delayed traffic for more than three hours Tuesday.

Information was not available about the first accident, which happened near mile marker 27.

The second accident involved a car carrier and a tractor trailer about five miles south of St. Pauls.

The driver of the car carrier had just left a weigh station and was proceeding north on I-95. He approached traffic that had stopped because of a paint crew, said Trooper R.P. Lee.

The driver, Felix Walker of Atlanta, applied his brakes to avoid hitting one vehicle. He quickly turned to the left, causing his carrier to jackknife, Lee said.

The front of Walker’s trailer hit the rear end of a tractor trailer that had stopped in the right lane. A van that was on the top deck of the carrier fell and hit the rear end of the tractor trailer.

No injuries were reported.

Walker was charged with failure to reduce speed.

The accident happened at 12:27 p.m. The interstate reopened at 3:45 p.m.
