I am 72 but have been retired 24 years. It is extra work, but I can tell you that juicing your portfolio with options significantly increases the return. If you find a stock that you really like and it pays a decent dividend, sell a call against it. You might lose the stock on occasion, but that is not a bad problem to have. If you like a stock but think it is over priced, sell a put at a strike you think is a fair price. Worse case you get assigned at your price. Best case you pocket the premium.
Now, everything isn't as easy as it seems. Ugly price swings happen and you might end up owning something that you don't want in retrospect or something that you do own gets clobbered. That is where the work comes in. If you are retired and don't want to be vigilant, then the extra juice might not suit you.
Just a thought from someone who has been at it a long time.
