March 27, 2013 Dorothy Chandler Pavillion at the LA Music Center
The highlight was going to be Jay Hunter Morris and he was good but we were surprised that Eric was such a minor role in the Opera. The performance was decidedly modern. The special effects with lighting and screens was excellent. An annoying kid behind us kept talking and had his cell phone go off several times during the performance. Awful. The chorus was over the top, the orchestra not so. The French Horns missed a few notes, the Wagner brass in general didn't sound good to me. I was still glad we made the effort to attend but it wasn't the first rate performance we expected. I enjoyed the portion of the pre performance lecture that we attended. Our seats were way on the top on the 4th level in row C to the stage left. We shared a pair of binoculars we had purchased earlier in the day at Sports Authority.
