Sister Mary Matilda Zegers, 83, of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, died yesterday in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.

A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 155 Washington Ave., Elizabeth. Arrangements are by the Leonard Home for Funerals, Elizabeth.

Born in Nutley, Sister Matilda entered the Sisters of Charity on March 25, 1939 and was a member for 65 years. Sister Matilda taught in St. Peters High School, New Brunswick, from 1940 to 1960 and then served as principal at St. Marys elementary and high school in Elizabeth from 1960 to 1987.

She was most recently registrar in the clinic at the former St. Elizabeths Hospital, now Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth, until 1997, when she retired.

Sister Matilda received a bachelors degree from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, and a masters degree from Fordham University, New York City
